Christie Peak Express Relocation

Christie Peak Express Relocation

The extensive overhaul to the Steamboat Base Area and the on-mountain improvements did not lose sight of one of the primary goals of the Full Steam Ahead campaign: improve the skier experience.

Relocating the bottom terminal of the gondola onto the ski slope and the introduction of the Wild Blue Gondola compressed an already crowded ski beach. Continuing their visionary work, Alterra directed Landmark to help reposition the workhorse of the base area, the Christie Peak Express. The result was the removal of the metal, skeletal mountain coaster and the mini-golf in exchange with wider ski runs, improved rider safety, and better circulation.

Landmark worked closely with Dendrite, Eric Smith Associates, Alterra, and the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. to develop a plan that improves the ski run, integrates a new bottom 6-pack terminal, allows flexible mazing configuration for either day or night skiing, stormwater management and water quality considerations and revisions to the night skiing lights. The aggressive schedule was met and the project constructed in time for opening day.
